1967 ford anglia
Some cars stay with you
For most people, their first car is simply the one they learned to drive in.
For Kris, his first car became something more.
It was a Ford Anglia.
Like many first cars, it wasn't perfect. But it sparked a passion for performance that stayed with him long after the Anglia was gone.
Over the years Kris owned plenty of impressive machinery, including Skylines and AMG Mercedes, but the idea of building the ultimate Anglia never disappeared.
The question was always there.
What would his first car have been like if he could build it exactly the way he wanted?
When the opportunity finally came to start again with a 1967 Anglia, the goal wasn't to restore the car back to factory condition.
Kris wanted to create the car he had imagined all those years ago.
A compact street machine with serious performance, modern drivability and the attitude to match.
The dream was clear.
Turning it into reality was the challenge.

Building something the factory never intended
A supercharged V8-powered Anglia sounds simple when written on paper.
In reality, almost every part of the car needed to be reconsidered.
The original chassis, suspension and braking systems were never designed for the performance Kris had in mind. Creating a reliable, enjoyable street car meant the build needed to go far beyond simply fitting a larger engine.
The chassis was strengthened throughout, with custom fabrication carried out to create the foundations needed for the new drivetrain.
The firewall and transmission tunnel were modified, wheel tubs were fabricated, and the suspension was completely redesigned to ensure the Anglia could put its power to the road while remaining enjoyable to drive.
Every modification had one purpose — creating a car that performed as impressively as it looked.
More than just horsepower
The heart of the build is the 347ci Ford Windsor V8, fitted with a supercharger to deliver the performance Kris had always imagined.
But the finished Anglia was never about chasing numbers alone.
The goal was a car that could actually be enjoyed.
The custom suspension package, upgraded brakes and carefully engineered driveline transformed the tiny Anglia into something completely different from the car that left the factory decades earlier.
It has the power to attract attention, but the confidence and reliability to be driven.
Exactly what Kris wanted.
Creating a car worthy of the dream
For Kris, finishing the car wasn't only about creating something impressive.
It also needed to be something he could enjoy on New Zealand roads.
With a vehicle this heavily modified, certification requirements can become a major challenge if they are considered too late in the process.
By planning the engineering requirements throughout the build, the Anglia was able to reach its final milestone without compromising the vision.
The result is a fully certified street machine built to be driven, not just displayed.
Built right from the beginning
For many highly modified builds, certification becomes the most stressful part of the journey.
For Kris, it wasn't.
Because certification had been considered from the outset, the vehicle progressed through the process without many of the costly surprises that can arise when compliance is left until the end.
Kris has since said that one of the biggest advantages of working with Real Rides was their knowledge of the certification process, which helped avoid many of the common pitfalls associated with highly modified vehicles.
It's exactly why Real Rides believes the best time to think about compliance is before the first cut is made—not after the build is finished.
A dream finally realised
Today, the Anglia attracts attention everywhere it goes.
Some people notice the supercharger sitting proudly above the bonnet. Others are amazed that such a small car can deliver so much performance.
But for Kris, the most important part isn't the horsepower or the attention.
It's the fact that after all these years, he finally owns the Anglia he imagined when he was a teenager.
The first car he ever owned became the ultimate version of the car he always wanted.
And now it's doing exactly what he dreamed it would do.
It is being driven.
Thinking about your own project?
Some projects start with a complete vehicle. Others begin with a stalled build, a major upgrade or simply an idea that's been sitting in the back of your mind for years.
No matter where you are on the journey—even if your idea seems complicated—there's a path forward.
Whether it's an engine conversion, custom fabrication, performance upgrades or navigating certification requirements, the right planning at the beginning can make all the difference.
You bring the dream. We'll help figure out the path.
